Writing a Memoir

My experience in writing a memoir.

Roy Boy started as a memoir in 2011 – a way of capturing working-class Fitzroy in the 1950s and ’60s before those memories faded. It took over a decade to get the stories right and the book finally published.

Once my memoir was published I started to deliver presentations to community groups and primary schools. I was fortunate to speak to grade three and grade four students at Fitzroy Primary School – I was a student there between 1958-64 and it was then known as George Street Primary School.

Recently I created Roy Boy Fitzroy Walking Tours where I take groups of people around the heart of Fitzroy and share stories from my memoir Roy Boy – a personalised tour.

A quote by me about writing a memoir.
